Some of the best Phuket hotels under 2,000 baht

Some of the best Phuket hotels under 2,000 baht

By Dave Rudd
As one of the world’s foremost beach holiday destinations, Phuket comes with a huge range of hotels in its beach and old town areas. Whether five-star luxury or mid-range hotels under 2,000 baht, Thailand’s largest island boasts a wide variety of accommodation.

Most of Phuket’s choice hotels and resorts with the best beach locations are in the high-end category, but there are still many options for those with more realistic budgets. The peak holiday season in Phuket is the dry season which runs from November to March, when days are consistently sunny and dry. Consequently, this also happens to be the priciest time for hotels, and booking ahead is therefore essential for getting a room. Booking Phuket hotels online also generally attracts discounts.

May to October, when the island experiences monsoonal weather, is less busy in Phuket. Prices are generally cheaper all round at this time although hotels still fill up in the busier areas so booking ahead is still recommended.

Phuket’s busiest areas are the beaches along the west coast, with Patong being the main focus in the southwest, and the beaches either side - Karon, Kata, and Kamala - also attract significant numbers of tourists. Those looking for quieter beaches should head for the south or north, while Phuket Town offers a spot of bustle and culture.

Suggestions for under 2000 baht (50 euros) a night

Patong has the best nightlife on the islandPatong beach

Easily Phuket’s busiest beach, Patong has more hotels than anywhere else on the island owing to its long, sweeping bay and numerous nightspots. Hotels fill virtually every soi (street) and vantage point, and booking well ahead for popular hotels here is essential.

Some of the best hotels under 2,000 baht in Patong include: the three-star Horizon Patong Beach Resort & Spa; and the Sunset Beach Resort on Phrabaramee road.

Karon beach

Phuket’s next busiest beach has always been popular, but has grown in stature and is now the focus of many upmarket resorts with prices to match. The beach here is long, straight and fairly exposed, and most hotels are within easy walking distance of it.

Some of the best hotels under 2,000 baht in Karon include: the mid-rise, four-star Centara Karon Resort Phuket; and the cheap and cheerful Old Phuket.

Kata beach

Kata beach also gets quite busy, but is much more laid back than Patong and Karon. Most hotels in the 2,000 baht range are set back behind the main road, which itself is 100m behind the beach; yet everything is within easy reach. Kata does have hotels right on the beach although most of these are high star-rated with hefty price tags.

Some of the best hotels under 2,000 baht in Kata include: the well-priced Orchidacea Resort; the aptly named three-star Serene Resort; and the Andaman Cannacia Resort with its fine hillside setting.

Nai Harn is great for a quiet break away from the crowdsNai Harn beach

This southern Phuket beach only has a handful of hotels and most tend to be in the upmarket bracket, like Le Meridian. This beach is one for the more discerning holiday maker, with its quiet location and distinct lack of bars and clubs, and popularity with the locals.

Some of the best hotels under 2,000 baht in Nai Harn include: the secluded Baan Krating Phuket Resort, complete with its own small beach; and the well-located All Seasons Naiharn Phuket Resort (formerly Sabana).

Rawai beach

Rawai is Phuket’s most southerly beach, lying beyond Promthep Cape and featuring a cracking view over the Andaman. Although the beach here isn’t the best for bathing, it is quieter then most and has some of the best seafood restaurants on the island. Rawai beach hotels cover all price ranges from exclusive resorts overlooking the sea, to cheap, backpacker-style guest houses right in among it.

Kamala beach

Kamala lies just to the north of Patong over a lofty headland and is a good choice for those who like nightlife, but also some peace and quiet. Hotels are significantly cheaper here than in neighbouring Patong, which is only a short taxi ride away.

Some of the best hotels under 2,000 baht in Kamala beach include: the popular Print Kamala Resort, located near the beach within a stone throw of eateries; and the Kamala Beach Hotel.

Surin beach

North of Patong and Kamala, Surin is traditionally a Muslim locale and features high vantage points and some of the most exclusive resorts in Phuket. Many wealthy residents live in Surin and as a result much of the choicest land is given over to housing developments. The Benyada Lodge Hotel is the most competitively-priced hotel in Surin.

Bangtao beach

Bangtao beach is best known for the Laguna Beach Resort; a huge upmarket hotel complex betwixt the Andaman and a string of quiet lagoons. The beach here is long, sweeping and quiet, and there are many fine hotel choices. Panta Phuket Hotel, with its traditional Thai village look, has some of the best prices on this beach.

Nai Yang beach

Nai Yang beach is the northernmost of Phuket’s frequented beaches and closest to Phuket International Airport. Hotels tend to be cheaper here than around the busy southern part of the island although there are no real budget options.

Phuket Town

Phuket Town is a fair way from the beaches of the west coast, making it ideal for those who prefer to escape the tourist hordes and immerse themselves in southern Thai culture. There are many hotels to choose from in all budgets, and if you don’t mind busy roads and markets this could be for you.

Some of the best hotels under 2,000 baht in Phuket Town include: the Metropole Hotel Phuket on Montri road, with its easy location and good facilities; the Royal Phuket City Hotel; and the Sino House Hotel Apartment.
